Qwerty Cute

I have been searching for a typewriter for months, scoured antique centres,
watched a bajillion auctions on eBay of possible buys until
yesterday FINALLY I found my very own fully functioning 60's Olympia.

here she is...

I had looked at plenty of different kinds including the more well known older Imperial and E. Remington & Sons but my interior and style era preference is 1960's so when i spied this one tucked away in a charity shop yesterday I was more than a little bit excited.

It came with the original instructions, a case, a cleaning brush and the invoice from when it was first bought on the 11th January in 1969.

Also turns out my Mum is a mega typewriter whizz from her days (many moons ago) working at an accountants as a super fast typewriter lady, (real technical term). This was perfect as she showed me how to use it and tested out all the keys with some fancy shmancy sentences that test all the letters.

Using all the letters:

Using the most popular letters:

She told me how she would have to type out full A3 profit and loss accounts on a double barrell carriage typewriter (ooooer) and if she made just one mistake would have to totally start all over again. Absolute effort and a half and there's me bashing away making LOADS of mistakes.

I don't think I'm anywhere near my Mum's level (she can actually type without looking at the keys) but I love the simplistic font the typewriter gives and how it isn't totally perfect.

I've already warned friends that they will be receiving my correspondence in formal letters instead of texting, any excuse to use my new toy!!

Pretty Nails

Anyone who knows me can tell you that I have a BIG obsession with painting my nails.
I love sparkles, bright colours and glossy glossy top coats.

There are some great shades around and my favourite brands include Nails inc, (in love with their Kensington Caviar Top Coat), China Glaze and Topshop.

At Christmas my parents got me this brilliant rack to keep my collection organised. It's a great way to store the bottles as before I had them lying around in drawers and random boxes and this way I can see all my options when I'm choosing a colour.
At the moment I have it organised like this:

Shelf 1: Sparkle and sequins

Shelf 2: Barry M

Shelf 3: Nails Inc

Shelf 4: Topshop, OPI & China Glaze

Shelf 5: Rimmel & Bourjois

I like to experiment with lots of different colour ways and accent nails of sparkle or colour pops, check out my Pinterest board of all my own nail art. Here's a few of my favourites:

I have noticed more nail art materials becoming available in high street stores like Topshop and Superdrug offering an array of colours in nail art pens, jewels and nail wraps.

I recently bought these nail "canes" that are designs to cut out and apply to the nails.
I found a large selection on Amazon, they come in large packs at a very reasonable price.
My pack came with a blade and glue for under £5. Some of the designs are featured here but there was more in my set, I particularly like the fruity ones, I think the Watermelon is my favourite.

I recently saw 'stick on fluff' in Superdrug which was a felt fur you could brush onto the nail, I wasn't too sure about this one because I always like to seal my nails with a glossy top coat.

With the help of my new Wah Nail Art book and a few other tools I plan to try out some more looks and designs so watch this space!!

(Clockwise) The Wah Nails Book of Nail Art, Topshop Nail Art Pen in Black, Various sized dotting tools, Nail Bling, Andrea Fulerton Nail Studs, Coloured Sequins, Topshop Nail File, Art Deco Nail Art Lacquer, Nail Glue & The Body Shop Nail Scissors.

The nail polish I am loving at the moment is a neon pink colour from
China Glaze called "Pool Party 872".  It's hard to show on the photos just how bright it is but it's definitely an eye catcher and I have had many comments about it.
It really adds a pop of colour to any outfit, ideal to brighten up the winter months!

What is your favourite nail colour??
